Texas is one of many states that benefit from energy deregulation. Deregulation means you have the freedom to choose your retail electricity provider (REP). As a result, roughly 85% of Texas consumers can shop in a competitive market and choose who provides electricity service to their home.

Unsure if you live in a deregulated area of Texas? Use the map below to view the five (5) Transmission and Distribution Utility (TDU) companies service areas. The TDU is the utility company that is responsible for the transmission and distribution of electricity to your home. You can’t choose which TDU you use, but you can choose the REP that buys and then sells you the electricity for your home. The REP is the company that will bill you each month which will include charges for the both the REP and the TDU in one bill.
